My Background

Grigor Youth
Me with my team, including Yevgeny Kafelnikov

I was born on May 26, 1974 in Sochi, Russia.  At the age of seven, I began to play tennis in the Olympic Reserve tennis school, practicing alongside future tennis stars such as Yevgeny Kafelnikov.  In 1993, I entered Abhazia State University, graduating in 1998 with a Master’s degree in Physical Education.

From 1994 to 1999, I coached tennis in a junior school of Olympic Reserve in Sochi, Russia.  Between 1994 and 1998, I coached Andrei Stoliarov.  Andrei had many achievements during this period, including:

  • 1995 – 1997: Champion of Russia
  • 1995: Bronze medalist, Junior World Championship
  • 1996: Entered the ATP as a professional tennis player*

*By January, 2001, Andrei reached the ranking of world #10

Other notable students and practice partners include:

  • 1995 – 1999: practice partners with Yevgeny Kafelnikov
  • 1994 – 1999: coached T. Samoilenko, who was Champion of Russia in 1995
  •  2000 – 2001: practiced at Rick Macci Tennis Academy (Pompano Beach, Florida)
  • Practice partner of Brandon Evans, Junior World #2, entered ATP professional in 2004

In August of 2001 I moved to Denver, CO, and coached both regionally and nationally ranked junior players. In 2004 I temporarily moved back to Florida and in April, 2011, I permanently moved to back to Denver, CO.  I am currently the personal coach for several nationally-ranked junior players.  I take an extreme interest in developing their technique, mental game and tournament experience.  Learn more about my current students.
